Jaci Downs, Professional Photographer
My passion for photography was discovered my junior year at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. At Loyola I had the opportunity to intern with Fox Television’s Publicity Department, assist the Director of the Laband Art Gallery, work as Lab Technician in the Photo Lab, and have a work-study position in the Art History Department. I also photographed for the school newspaper. Each of these positions provided me with knowledge of the art world, the media and public relations. The positions required excellent communication and social skills, as well as an eye for aesthetics. After graduating from Loyola Marymount University with honors in 1999, I have had a number of different internships and photography-related positions. As a Photojournalist for Montgomery Newspapers and Second Shooter for Ultimate Images Photography, I gained working knowledge of lighting systems and increased my ability to capture the decisive moment. Furthermore, I was an Assistant Manager at Larmon Photo, which was a lab, retail store and portrait studio.
In 2002, I began my event photography business, specializing in music, portraiture and weddings. In 2002, I also started teaching photography courses at local Adult Schools, both Abington and Hatboro Horsham. I currently teach a Forum Class at Rosemont College and a beginning and a workshop class at Plymouth Whitemarsh Adult School. Additionally, I created a photography program at Ockanickon Boy Scout Reservation in 2004 during the summers.
Sharing my artistic work publicly is extremely important to me. I have a passion for both traveling and music. I photograph both local musicians and internationally recognized musicians, such as Radiohead, MMW, Les Claypool, James Brown and The Wailers. My photographs have been displayed at clubs and restaurants in New York City, Doylestown and Philadelphia. I believe music, travel and visual communication is a powerful healing entity.
With my diverse experience in the past 13 years I have created a unique style that combines creative portraiture with highly emotional candids.
I provide quality timeless proofs, with storybook albums and customized packages to fit your budget. A strong rapport with my customers and an unobtrusive manner is my primary goal. As a photographer I am dedicated, flexible, and a proactive thinker willing to take on any assignment. Living in an extremely visual culture where the media plays a critical role in our daily lives, it’s imperative that photographers communicate effectively.
